Advanced Fire Fighting

This 32-hour course is designed for all seafarers designated to control fire-fighting operations. Any mariner who successfully completes this course will learn: Advanced firefighting tactics and strategy; ventilation techniques; large hose line handling; multiple story firefighting; search and rescue operations; and confined space rescue. The live fire practical training is conducted at either the Washington State Fire Training Academy or at Fremont Maritime Services – India Tango, by fire fighters with years of maritime experience. Both facilities provide excellent hands on training where mariners combat realistic shipboard fires in controlled environments.

The Scuttlebutt:

Any mariner who successfully completes this Advanced Fire Fighting course satisfies the Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code, as amended, AND, the fire prevention and firefighting training requirements of 46 CFR 11.202(b)(2); and, the Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 11.205(d) and 11.401(g)(1) for a credential.

What to bring:

Compass Courses recommends jeans/sweatpants and a t-shirt to wear under the bunker gear and a clean change of clothes. Synthetic clothing, tank tops, and shorts are not recommended. A tight seal on the facemask is required for safety – participants must be clean shaven.

Overall the course was excellent! It is tough to find anything to improve with your courses!
