Able Seaman

Our Able Seaman course satisfies the requirements for any Able Seaman document (Unlimited, Limited, Special, OSV, Fishing, Sail and MODU). The class provides you with the fundamental knowledge and information for working on deck regardless of the size of vessel or its area of operation.

In the class you will prepare for the exams and gain a foundation in:

* Rules of the Road
* Aids to Navigation and Charts
* Lookout & Helmsman
* Deck General
* Deck Safety
* Marlinspike

The best part for you- This is an “in lieu of exam” course, which means all the USCG exams are taken here in a relaxed and familiar setting. Upon successful completion of the course, you present your Certificate of Training to the USCG National Maritime Center or USCG Regional Exam Center.
Special Note- This course is most frequently completed in conjunction with the PSC/Lifeboatman course and Basic Safety Training.

The Scuttlebutt:

  Any applicant who has successfully completed our 44-hour Able Seaman course and presents your Certificate of Training within one year of the completion of training, will satisfy the written examination requirements of 46 CFR12.05-9 for the “Deck & Navigation General/Deck Safety” and “Deck General & Safety/Rules of the Road exam modules for any Able Seaman endorsement; AND the practical (knot-tying) examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.05-9 for any Able Seaman endorsement.

The course was informative, well presented and interesting on subjects that most of us have been trained in before. Learned some new things. Thanks for a great job!
