Do I need to renew my BST?
Basic Safety Training is valid for five years. There are two (2) ways to do this: 1. Take our 3-day BST-Refresher course and submit the certificate to the USCG, or 2. Provide documented sea service to the USCG showing you have earned 360 days worth of sea service (beyond the boundary line) over the last five years. One of these two methods is required to maintain your STCW endorsement on your MMC.
What is in the BST class?
Basic Safety Training is one 5-day class composed of four modules. These modules are Basic Fire Fighting, Personal Survival Techniques, 1st Aid & CPR, and Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. See our page for BST for more details.

Basic Safety Training and the BST Refresher certificates are valid for 5 years.
