One of the essential requirements for basic safety trainings to all seafarers is the basic fire fighting. This training course should be undertaken from maritime training schools with training courses that are US Coast Guard approved. The training will be very interesting and well meaning as it is held and undertaken with a live firefighting drill. The flammable materials used are actual materials that can be found on board the ship so that each trainee could experience on how to extinguish, control and minimizing the risk of an actual fire on board the vessel. The actual live firefighting training is held at modern Washington State Fire Training Academy under the close supervision of highly qualified state’s maritime firefighting training officers. The first phase of the training is in a classroom environment where the theory about fire, control and prevention are taught while the actual live firefighting drill is on the venue designed specifically to look alike of the actual environment on board the vessel.
A seafarer who will take the basic firefighting course will be required to bring with them the following;
A – On firefighting venue:
1. A blue denim pants, rugged Levis pants are suggested, sweatpants and T-shirt.
2. An extra change clothes
3. A tight seal on the facemask
B – On the pool:
1. A long swim shorts
